I started TheBikerSpot on April 1, 2007. It was an idea I had to keep bikers in touch with each other, the motorcycle community, and events of interest to all bikers. It was a simple idea, and I was real excited at what could become of a website like this. At the time, I could not find any website like TheBikerSpot. I had friends on MySpace that shared some info, but I hated MySpace, and I wanted something just for bikers. So I created TheBikerSpot.
It started out with a bang! It was a lot of fun meeting new friends with the same interest, and we had a great time with our Meet & Greet in Myrtle Beach that year. I put in a lot of time, money, and effort to get it off the ground. We even had to fight off a website that started up looking like TheBikerSpot and even using the tag line “Continue the ride . . .”. We won that trademark dispute but with a cost. In the past, I was threatened with a lawsuit because I wasn’t fair . . .WTF? It took money and time away from us to work more on the site. I was still learning many new things on running the servers and the complications of the software. It was very time consuming, and I lost a lot of members who did not have patience with a site that required some effort to learn how to do things on it. Meanwhile, other sites started to pop up using the same format and idea. I continued to work hard to grow the site and get people involved in it, but many went elsewhere.
I don’t blame anybody for the website not being some huge biker website. That was never my intention. It was never my intention for it to be a “dating” site either. That just came about, and I am fine with that, but I still focus on the site being a place where bikers can “Continue the ride . . “ and share their experiences. I like to see what other bikers and groups are doing across the country and the world. The pictures, videos, and blogs are interesting to go thru, and I always look forward to perusing thru the site for new things.
So here is my beef people. I am using this blog space here to set some things right. You may like it, or think I am an ass, but this is the way it is! I will continue to keep TheBikerSpot operating at a monthly cost to me. I am not sure how long I will be able to keep it going, but for now I will still commit to keep it operating. I have a job and a family that keep me busy too, along with a very social life. I don’t always have the time to be on the site at times, but I do log on everyday. I post pictures, events, videos, blogs, etc. I welcome people to the site when they sign up and hope they enjoy it too. But, this site was created for you too. I don’t have a lot of rules, and I allow everybody to have fun as they see fit here at TheBikerSpot. Mainly we have a great community of bikers here, and I love all of the friendships I have made along this ride. So if you don’t see me on the site when you’re on here, don’t crap on me for not being available. I have other interest that take up my time too. If you like TheBikerSpot, get involved with it more and help make it more exciting. Invite friends to the site and get them involved too. At this time, we have O.P. doing his own chat night group on Wednesday nights. I met O.P. thru this site at the beginning, and we’ve had a great time doing things with the site since. TexasGal from Texas is my partner in the site. She came on board and created excitement on here too. We now have Louann McGhee from Kentucky starting a Sunday night chat session, and she is putting together a Meet & Greet at Little Sturgis this year. You see people, this site is here for you to connect with bikers and have fun. I will not always be involved with creating things to do here for you. You are encouraged to make anything out of the site you want, I will be here to help however I can. If the site ever starts making money, I would love to be able to give back to the members, especially in helping out with their biker charities and rides. TheBikerSpot is open for fun, but it’s up to the members to make it fun. If you have an idea, shoot me a message and let’s see if we can make it happen. It’s all up to you what you want out of this site!
Currently, I have started a page on the site called “On The Spot”. I will interview biker related venues, bars, and organizations to pass on to the members. It may or may not interest you, but it is something I want to add to the site. If you have a favorite “Spot” that I could write about, pass it on to me. Currently, I have published one on the site (under the Blogs tab), and have 2 more interviews lined up next week. If somebody would like to write a story about a Spot, pass it on to me and I will publish it to the site. And of course, if there is something you want to do with TheBikerSpot, let me know!
Thanks for listening and Ride Safe!
