Larry the Flag Man Coming to Metamora - Need Volunteers

Volunteers Needed to Honor Local Hero

Larry “The Flagman” Eckhardt will arrive in Metamora at 11:00am on Saturday, Dec. 29th at the Metamora Village Square, and is needing volunteers to help put up over 2400 flags throughout the Village to honor local Iraq War Veteran and Hero Sgt.Tyler W. Ziegel. Volunteers will also be needed on Monday, Dec. 31st after funeral services to take down the flags. For any questions, contact Bob Becraft at 309-657-4051.

Sgt. Ziegel was a U.S. Marine Corps reservist with Peoria County-based Company C, 6th Engineer Support Battalion when he deployed to western Iraq in 2004. In December of that year, as his convoy rolled past a car, it exploded, set Ziegel’s truck on fire and knocked it off the road. He suffered third-degree and full-depth burns on his head, left arm and right hand.
