Legislation has been proposed in the Illinois General Assembly (House Bill 180) that would create a state licensing system for firearms dealers. As you are aware, firearms dealers are already licensed by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.

Under this new Illinois licensing system all firearm owners would be required to register their firearms with the Illinois State Police. It would also expand the powers of local and state law to determine compliance with the law.

I oppose this legislation. I will continue to keep you informed on matters of interest in Springfield.

Sincerely,
Dan Rutherford
State Senator
